Pit N Portal was started in 2002 by Steve Versteegen and Ian Barnard, both have backgrounds in underground mining equipment with Steve as a specialist underground fitter and plant manager and Ian through sales and marketing.

Underground rental and sales was the original focus and still forms the largest sector of the Pit N Portal Group. An initial contract with KCGM underground in 2002 saw the start of the rental fleet adding the first four machines, since then the fleet has grown up wards of seventy machines and the client base has grown to include all the major underground mining contractors along with a host of junior miners and large mining companies.

Pit N Portal has also evolved to operate its own fully equipped workshop in Perth employing around twenty five employees. In 2005 as a result of unprecedented growth there became a need for an experienced workshop manager to be employed, this saw Eddy Lok join the team and he is now the group’s operations manger. Eddy has had managerial roles with Modadelphous and Byrnecut Mining in the mechanical fields and has had a major role in developing the business systems that have allowed Pit N Portal to continue its growth.

Jason Paparone has taken on the role as workshop manager as the workshop has become increasingly busy. Jason completed is apprenticeship as a diesel fitter in Kalgoorlie and has been with Pit N Portal since 2003 one of the longest standing employees.
