Prior to PNPs beginning, Ian Barnard & Steve Versteegen worked together for a National mining equipment hire company. At the time, many surface equipment/dry hire options existed, however, reliable, maintained underground (UG) solutions were less abundant.
Seeing the gap in the market, Ian & Steve harnessed their customer orientated, entrepreneurial spirit and carved out a niche in the UG sector.

Formed in the heart of the WA Goldfields by Ian Barnard and Steve Versteegen; PNP focused primarily on equipment hire and maintenance.
Awarded 1st contract to supply underground equipment to a prominent goldfields operation.
PNP expands its service in the greater Goldfields
Due to rapid expansion, PNP hires its first team of F/T employees and sets up a Welshpool workshop in WA.
Within two years, had outgrown Felspar Street.
PNP moves to new larger facilities, located in Division Street Welshpool.
By the end of 2006, the company had expanded to over 40 Full-time employees
PNPs fleet grows to over 100 units; becoming one of Australia’s largest UG hard-rock hire companies, with National coverage and a small fleet in NZ & PNG.
PNPs full-service workshop & regional branch in Kalgoorlie. Wins large contract to supply entire fleet/on-site maintenance services to a major Goldfields project.
Second major equipment/on-site maintenance contract won on a remote WA minesite.
Moved to a purpose built 7800m2 facility in Maddington. State of the art facilities include two dedicated workshops for fabrication, component and mechanical repairs/rebuilds.
Pit N Portal’s Mining Services division is formed, with the first of multiple mining contracts won.
Full time employees numbered more than 150 skilled workers, including auto electrical, boiler making and mechanical trades.
Rapid demand for its mining services saw PNP purchase a large Kalgoorlie premises with a full service workshop and lay down facilities.
By this stage, PNP had four major mining services contracts and more than 250 full time employees.
Undertakes a brand overhaul, officially launching the revamped look; further cementing itself as a ‘Total Mining Solutions Provider’.
Pit N Portal wins its first interstate, full service mining contract in QLD.
Acquired by Emeco Group. The merger allows Emeco to leverage its core capabilities, expansion into a new market and grows PNPs foothold in the underground sector.
Commenced significant underground project in the Goldfields region. The project encompasses four mines and associated infrastructure.
Realising part of its long term strategic direction, Pit N Portal expands into its first Surface Mining Contract, in a remote WA location.
